Can I Share Jesus at Work?

Do we see the opportunities to build friendships and share faith with our Muslim colleagues?
Whether we work in education, finance and business, creative arts or healthcare … whether we’re working online for a few hours a week, or 50+ hours on a shop floor or office …
For many of us, the workplace is a context where we spend a huge amount of our time. And it can be a great place to build relationships with Muslims!
Last month on our Podcast, John shared his story of how his professional context, as a dental lecturer at a university, became the place where Muslims and Christians were able to build relationship and discuss faith, together.
Back in 2009, the events of 9/11 prompted John to realise that he didn’t know anything about Islam and didn’t really have any Muslim friends.
Following the opportunity to witness to some Muslim and Christian dental students, he decided to bring those of different faith backgrounds together - to share food, grow friendship and discuss their faith stories.
This soon developed into more structured events, all with the aim of learning about one another’s faith. Friendships were formed out of these events and other colleagues of both Christian and Muslim backgrounds became involved.
For John, it was particularly the context of an ‘evidence-based’ profession that provided the opportunity to be more ‘evidence-based’ in his own understanding of his faith and how he could share that with others.
He also saw how there could be a witness of hospitality, both in bringing people together, but also in being willing to open oneself up to responding to the invitation of Muslims, in order that friendships could be deepened.
John’s story is full of encouragement to us that our workplaces can be a primary context to reach out with God’s love to Muslims.
