Discourse

Discourse is a great place to network with others in the Mahabba Network, share news, get encouraged and find out about events.

It is a private, online community area for those who are already part of local Mahabba groups or individuals who identify with our vision and mission and want to find out more.

It is accessible online or via smartphone app, and is free to use, although we ask that users adhere to a few, straightforward guidelines to enhance the experience.

Access is by log-on only, and new users are required to fill in an application form and provide a referee.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get the smartphone app and access Discourse?

  • You will need to apply for an account first via the form above

  • When you receive the invitation link, set up your username and password in Discourse

  • Then download (free) for iPhone via the App Store or for Android via Google Play

  • Log in using the username and password you set up when invited to Discourse

What are the benefits of Discourse?

Among many other things:

  • It’s a fully-managed piece of software, so it’s incredibly good value – we don’t need to worry about any maintenance, security updates or glitches, which means we can all concentrate on building healthy community and helpful discussions

  • Discourse is 100% open source, which means that a whole community of code-writing experts has examined the code for vulnerabilities and flaws. This gives us peace of mind (but we still advise you not to post personal or specific details). Find out more about Discourse security

  • Discourse has a great variety of features and functions that go beyond The City, such as: a more advanced smartphone app; better moderation ability; and a much richer environment for posting content. This means it is a very conducive place for your discussions and interacting with each other

Is Discourse moderated or are there any rules?

  • At present, Discourse is self-moderated and there is a set of guidelines for engagement

  • We ask that when you register, you follow our guidelines and be sensitive about security and respecting other users

  • However, there are two grounds for immediate suspension:

    • Canvassing support for extreme political parties or political views

    • Copying and pasting content outside Discourse without explicit consent
