The Qur’an with Christian Commentary.

The Quran with Christian Commentary.

A Guide to Understanding the Scripture of Islam. A Guide to Understanding the Scripture of Islam.

Gordon D. Nickel

What hope do we have as Christians of getting our heads around the Quran? It is so unlike the Bible in content and format.

Gordon Nickel has produced a superb resource for Christians who want to get some understanding of Islam’s holy book. The volume contains a full English text of the Quran with a commentary which particularly addresses those issues that would be of interest to believing Christians.

This is something you would keep at home and use for reference. You can check for yourself what someone else has claimed, perhaps. However, the expert scholars who have contributed to this edition would carry no weight with Muslims who have their own experts who explain from things from their own point of view. This is very much a help Christians, not a tool to deploy in apologetics.

The translation he uses is that of Arthur Droge which is not well known but it is of good quality. Nickel provides a concise but helpful introduction and an extensive bibliography. The publication is enhanced by contributions on various issues from such scholars as George Bristow, Peter Riddell, Ayman S. Ibrahim, David Cook, Daniel A. Brubaker, Linda Darwish, David Marshall, and Mark Anderson.
